I’ll be honest – I didn’t finish the game because I lost motivation to do so. Either way, a game has its faults but can also be quite fun. I did have a bit of a blast in co-op free roam and running around this unique open world. As is with Far Cry games, I loved the times where wild animals would appear out of nowhere and help me attack NPCs. I adored Boomer and all of the other companions, but that’s about it.

By the time we first meet Dutch in the first game, he’s a shell of a man still fighting uselessly against the march of civilization. A single glance at him might still reveal a glimmer of a great man worthy of John’s loyalty, but many players found it difficult to understand how John could have followed such an obvious madman. If you’re reading through each and every staff member’s Game of the Year lists, it’s pretty likely that most, if not almost all of them will include both God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 at the forefront (assuming they played them). I’m falling straight into that trend – but you have to admit that there is an astonishing reason behind it. Both of these games are absolute masterworks, built detail-by-detail in order to transcend the normal experience of an open world game.

It’s no new trick on Rockstar’s end to tweak city names for legal purposes and otherwise take a whole lot of inspiration for their surroundings from real-life places, but it’s still uncanny and exciting to unexpectedly step into a long-ago vacation. This goes for St. Denis, a period recreation of one of the most fun cities – New Orleans. Almost every random interaction in RDR2 spirals off into some incredible mini-task or goes on to reveal a bit of valuable information. That’s because after all the years put into this game, nothing is truly random. That said, these interactions are worth the time , no matter who it’s with… even a wild cult nestled near Valentine in the Cumberland Forest area. At the very least, it’ll definitely be an interesting time with the turtle-worshipping Cult of Chelonia (Chelonia is actually the name of the genus turtles fit in). Midnight’s pistol is the fancier of the two, but this pistol is crazy good. It has one of the highest rates of fire out of any weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2. If you need it, the gunsmith has you covered so don’t worry about it. In terms of damage, it can take someone out in two shots even from a fair distance which is super helpful in tight situations so it is definitely worth the investm
